kelty Jogging Stroller – The Speedster Swivel Deluxe

A tall mom after reading my review of the best jogging stroller for tall parents, mentioned the kelty Jogging Stroller as a jogger she has been considering to buy.

She also remarked how frustrating and difficult it is to get a baby jogger with handlebar high enough for parents that are 6ft and over.

I took a quick look at the Kelty Speedster swivel wheel deluxe, and with a handlebar you can adjust from 34 inches to 45 inches, I could not agree more with my tall mom friend that this is a good choice.

We indeed had many private emails between us, and I am sure she is enjoying her purchase with her equally over 6 ft husband!

Though, the Kelty Speedster Swivel Deluxe Child Stroller is not as popular as a Bob, or Baby Jogger, I found out it is extremely lightweight, has a high load capacity of 70 lbs for big kids, with many features you would expect to find in any of the top brand strollers. And it has a strong following amongst tall parents.

This encounter led me to write this full review of the Kelty Speedster, so other parents will know of the choices out there if they want a versatile stroller with high handle.

Update >>> There is a USA Consumer Product Safety Commission Recall on the Kelty Speedster jogging stroller. The Recall is due to concern about the front wheel coming loose and posing fall and injury hazards.

Alternatives >>> You should consider the Schwinn Jogging stroller as a great alternative that is priced even cheaper than Kelty Jogging Strollers. And if you have a little bit more to spend on a jogging stroller, consider the BOB Revolution Flex that has more features, and built with better quality materials.  The study construction of BOB range of jogging strollers make them one of my favorites and they last longer than most baby joggers.

The following are the 3 key features I would normally check in a jogging stroller with potentials for high parents’ satisfaction, and I pleased the Kelty Speedster Swivel meets these conditions:

• It should be extremely risk proof and ensure high levels of safety for the occupant with all the necessary locking systems to secure children and the stroller. Kelty takes safety of their strollers seriously and in February 2012 recalled about 3000 of its single and double strollers on safety concerns, so you can trust any of their strollers.
• A stroller should not be very bulky. The size should be compact, and can be easily folded to for storage and transportation. However, the compactness and the lightweight should not make the stroller less sturdy, particularly as a jogging stroller.
• The strollers should have undergone and passed Federal Regulatory safety tests to ensure the safety of the child.

Kelty Speedster Swivel Deluxe Stroller meets these conditions, and has specific features that I like to see as a bonus like the high handle which is adjustable, and makes it suited for both tall and short people. The seat and frame are also well padded for comfort.

Soft and comfy padded Seat

The seat and frame of the Kelty Speedster is generously for baby comfort, you can recline the seat in many angles either for your child to seat upright and have a good view of the surrounding, or lie back for dozy time!. The cover comes with a head hugger padding for added comfort. The shoulder harnesses helps to keep your baby in position, and prevents the head slipping aside.

Accommodation for Growing Children

The Kelty Speedster Swivel Deluxe Child Stroller has the capacity of accommodating growing children and thus keeps you away from worrying about extra expenses regarding strollers as your child grows up. The stroller can hold babies weighing up to 70 pounds which is genuinely a lot. The shoulder harnesses and the other harnesses are all adjustable and therefore can be lengthened as your child grows up.

The Cons:

However, there are a few drawbacks to the Kelty Speedster Swivel Deluxe which you should be aware before you buy.

• Just like with any other jogging stroller, it is not suitable for a newborns. Your baby should at least be 6 months old to be placed in this stroller, or old enough to hold the head unsupported. You will find similar warning on any jogging stroller, unless it is used with a compatible infant car seat.
• Unfolding the stroller might sometimes be a difficult job. The clips used for unfolding are a little bit tight at first. But they tend to loosen up with time.
• The canopy is huge, and does restricts the view for the occupant. Many parents actually like the size of the canopy.

How much should you pay for the Kelty Speedster?

The list price of the Kelty Speedster Single Deluxe is just under $400, but you can get it far cheaper on Amazon. At the time of writing this review, I had a quick look and it was selling at a 20% discount.

I like shopping at Amazon beacuse of their great customer service, and no quibbles return policy. I also like to read other real customers’ experience with a product before I buy, and Amazon offer all these options.

The Kelty Speedster jogging stroller has a very high online rating and customer satisfaction score, with many giving it a perfect 5 stars.
